This year, as always, ANSES will be at the Paris International Agricultural Show, and we invite you all to take a headlong plunge into the fascinating world of our scientific experts. Learn about the water cycle, microbiological food risks and the role of insects in the environment. In workshops for the whole family, discover how science fits into your daily lives and take home lots of practical health tips.
Did you know that certain types of food poisoning can simply be caused by a poorly washed knife? That ladybugs can be beneficial to plants, while leaf beetles can destroy an entire field of corn? Come visit us and participate in the workshops offered by our ANSES scientists You will learn about bacteria and their role in food poisoning, understand how certain micro-organisms or insects can destroy plant health while others help to preserve it, and discover why it is so important to practice water conservation.
Welcome to our labs!
The Agency's eleven reference laboratories conduct their work in three major areas: food safety and hygiene, animal health and well-being, and plant safety.
At this year's Paris International Agricultural Show our scientists will introduce you to their work, based on two different themes. They will conduct a full-scale experiment to explain the simple hygiene tips you need to follow to avoid food poisoning. And on a completely different topic, they will explain the risks posed by pests for the health of both cultivated and forest-growing plants, while also showing how certain insects can actually be beneficial to plants.
Under the science tree…
Seated under our tree of knowledge, children will hear the story of twin water droplets and learn about the importance of using water resources responsibly.
And before you leave, don’t forget to take our fun full-scale quiz to test your knowledge on a variety of topics: keys to understanding food labels, the importance of complying with the "use-by" date, the "whys" and "whens" of hand washing, etc.
So be sure to stop by and visit us from 21 February to 1 March 2015
