Marc Mortureux, Director General of the French Agency for Food, Environment and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES) is strengthening his immediate executive team with the appointment of three Deputy Director Generals and a Director of Information, Communication and Dialogue with Society.
A cohesive, multidisciplinary and cross-functional team that combines scientific excellence and expertise with openness towards society
With these appointments, Marc Mortureux thus completes the senior management of the new health safety agency created on 1 July by the merger of AFSSA and AFSSET, and now has a multidisciplinary team to assist him in tackling the scientific and societal challenges related to health, environmental and occupational risk assessment. The small senior management team thus comprises three Deputy Director Generals, two of whom are from AFSSA and AFSSET. The three Deputy Director Generals are:
- Valérie Baduel, veterinarian, Deputy Director General for Strategy and International Affairs. Since November 2005, she had been Deputy Director General of AFSSA, after having worked as Deputy Director of Research and Laboratories in the Ministry of Agriculture since late 2000;
- Gérard Lasfargues, occupational physician, Scientific Deputy Director General. He previously fulfilled the same role at AFSSET since 2009, after having set up and managed since 2007, within the same agency, the Department for expert appraisals and the health/environment and health/occupation complementarity;
- Martial Mettendorff, Deputy Director General for Resources (human, financial, technical, IT and legal), currently Head of Department at the Directorate General for Health, and formerly Deputy Director General of the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS). He will take up his duties on 1 October 2010.
In addition, Alima Marie, previously an Adviser in the Office of Luc Chatel, has been appointed ANSES Director of Information, Communication and Dialogue with Society with effect from 1 September 2010. She was formerly Director of External Relations and Communication for the Centre for National Monuments.
Finalising the senior management is the first step for the Agency's operational and strategic management team. An Executive Board will be appointed in a few weeks to complete the ANSES governance structure.
Marking these appointments, Marc Mortureux said that "ANSES is now ready to confront the scientific and societal challenges for which it was created. The new management intends above all to be multidisciplinary and to strive for transversality in the face of global risks that require not only the utmost scientific competence but also the ability to interact with society so as to better anticipate and manage the health, environmental and occupational risks to which people may be exposed. It is with this in mind that the Agency's Executive Board will be finalised in the coming weeks.”
