BioTech Act - the European Commission would like to hear your views

On 19 December 2025, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a Regulation to, inter alia, amend Regulation 2019/6 on veterinary medicinal products. This text, which aims to encourage and support innovation while ensuring a high level of protection of public health and the environment, is now open for public consultation.

The biotech sector plays a key role in several areas of the EU economy. It is research-driven, rapidly evolving and requires significant public and private investment. The Biotechnology Regulation will provide for a series of measures to create an environment to accelerate the transition of biotech products from the laboratory to the plant and the market, while maintaining the highest safety standards for the protection of the population and the environment.

This adopted act is open for opinions for 8 weeks. All contributions received will be summarised by the European Commission and presented to the European Parliament and the Council to feed into the legislative debate.
