Calls for applications from experts

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) conducts a wide range of surveillance, expertise, research and reference missions to support public health measures, animal health and welfare and plant health. The Agency has a cross-functional perspective on health issues and can identify, overall, the risks to which people are exposed through their lifestyles and consumption patterns, or the characteristics of their environment, including in the workplace. To carry out its assessments and compile its recommendations, ANSES calls on over twenty expert committees made up of experts appointed for three years, and applies independent, multidisciplinary, collective and adversarial expertise.

For such collective expertise to be applied successfully requires total respect for such fundamental principles as the competence, impartiality and probity of the experts, and the collegiality and transparency of the assessment which is made public. With this in mind, experts are appointed in their personal capacity (intuitu personae) as a result of public calls for applications. They are selected on the basis of their scientific competence (assessed by their professional experience and scientific publications) and an examination of their public declarations of interest, in order to prevent potential conflicts of interest depending on the nature of the issues to be investigated by the expert committee.

Over the coming months, the Agency will be renewing the membership of several of its committees whose mandate will be expiring and will be issuing public calls open to applications from scientists from a range of disciplines. The fields concerned will involve the assessment of food-related chemical and biological risks, animal health and feed, the evaluation of plant protection products and biocides, fertilizers and growing media, and work carried out in the framework of the REACh and CLP regulations.
