French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety

The General Directorate

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety is headed by a Director General. He carries out all acts that are not reserved for the Board of Administrators.

The Director General is assisted by a:

 

A Director for Animal Health and Welfare performs cross-cutting functions within the Agency, with a role as coordinator of the Agency's various entities, particularly during the occurrence of animal health crises. He must be able to anticipate the major health issues and the positioning to take to enable the Agency to deal with them.

He represents the Agency in all matters relating to animal health within the various French, European and international organisations and networks, supported by the Agency's scientists.

In his sphere of competence, he acts as an interface between the Agency, its supervisory ministries, in particular the Directorate General for Food (DGAL), livestock professionals and the agro-food industries.

He chairs the thematic steering committee on "animal health and nutrition".

 

A Director for Food Safety performs cross-cutting functions within the Agency, with a role as coordinator of the Agency's various entities, particularly during the occurrence of health crises. He must be able to anticipate the major health issues and the positioning to take to enable the Agency to deal with them.

He represents the Agency in all matters relating to food safety within the various French, European and international organisations and networks, supported by the Agency's scientists.

In his sphere of competence, he acts as an interface between the Agency, its supervisory ministries, in particular the Directorate General for Food (DGAL), professionals and the agro-food industries.

He chairs the thematic steering committee on "food safety".

 

A Director for Plant Health performs cross-cutting functions within the Agency, with a role as coordinator of the Agency's various entities, particularly during the occurrence of plant health crises. He must be able to anticipate the major health issues and the positioning to take to enable the Agency to deal with them.

He represents the Agency at French, European and international level, within the various organisations and networks, in relation to his sphere of competence.

In his sphere of competence, he acts as an interface between the Agency, its supervisory ministries, in particular the DGAL, professionals and the industries concerned.

He chairs the thematic steering committee on "plant health and protection", in close cooperation with the Director for Regulated Products Assessment.

 

The Office of the Director General comprises a Head of Cabinet, a Chief of Staff, an Executive Secretary, and scientific advisers reporting to the DG.

The Head of Cabinet is responsible for the overall coordination of the office's activities. She supports the Director General with the management and monitoring of strategic dossiers and projects. At the request of the Director General, she takes charge of cross-functional dossiers.

She is responsible for relations with the Agency's external partners, the leaders of partner organisations at national and European level, elected representatives and stakeholders, for which she is the main contact point. She helps with formulating and implementing the Agency's strategy.
