The Ploufragan-Plouzané laboratory specialises in the health of farmed poultry, rabbits, pigs and fish. It contributes to improving animal welfare as well as the safety and quality of poultry, rabbit and pork-based foodstuffs. It employs a staff of more than 200 across its two sites, in Ploufragan and Plouzané.

  • The Ploufragan-Plouzané laboratory studies:
    • the agents responsible for diseases with a major economic impact on production or on the immune potential of animals,
    • emerging diseases.


  • It analyses new farming methods:
    • their consequences on animal behaviour and health,
    • the quality of products that are derived,
    • their potential impact on breeders’ health


  • It develops tools and methods for diagnosis and prevention of diseases in animals.


  • It also assesses the impact of environmental pollutants on animals and risks associated with the consumption of foods derived from them. It helps to prevent bacterial contamination.


  • It is a reference laboratory for several diseases.It provides international organisations or the French State with scientific and technical support for veterinary control (sample analysis, provision of reference reagents, monitoring of analytical quality in diagnostic laboratories, etc.).
