A simpler way to submit proposals on appelsprojetsrecherche.fr: a single login and personal space

On 21 July, the partners of the appelsprojetsrecherche.fr portal, supported by the French Ministry of Research, launched the “Projets recherche connect.fr” authentication system as well as a new service called “My space”. “Projets recherche connect.fr” will allow users to access all the portal’s services and partner applications using a single login. Scientists can also now create their own personal space on the portal. Based on the “Tell Us Once” principle, their administrative and scientific information will be brought together in one place, reducing the amount of information they need to enter when responding to calls for proposals.

Launched in 2021, appelsprojetsrecherche.fr, a joint portal for calls for proposals, was developed through collaborative efforts by six partners: ADEME, the ANR, ANSES, Inserm, ANRS-MIE and INCa.

Created at the initiative of the French Ministry of Research, this platform forms part of the Research Programming Act (LPR) and aims to simplify administrative procedures through two key objectives:

  • For researchers: to offer a single portal that streamlines their interactions with calls for proposals, whether they are applying for funding or acting as reviewers, in accordance with the “Tell Us Once” principle.
  • For the portal’s partner funding organisations: to provide a common platform for configuring and managing calls for proposals and applications, with the aim of harmonising practices.

The first phase of the portal’s development focused on improving access to information about research funding opportunities and making it easier for scientists, laboratories and research organisations to monitor available calls by bringing together all relevant information in one place, whether for research proposals or applications.

Since the portal was opened, 720 calls have been published by 45 partners, with an average of 400 visits per day.

“Projets recherche connect.fr”: a single authentication system simplifying the user experience

“Projets recherche connect.fr” is a service that simplifies access to the online services and procedures offered by the partners of the appelsprojetsrecherche.fr portal. It supports the “Tell Us Once” principle by providing a single shared identity across all partner applications, thereby eliminating the need for multiple accounts.

With this service:

  • basic information (for example, last name, first name, date of birth, email address) is centralised and provided to partner applications in a consistent, reliable and secure manner;
  • data exchanges between partner applications are simplified.

Users can create an account in one of two ways:

  • Using ORCID
When you authorise access through ORCID when creating a “Projets recherche connect.fr” account, your first name, last name, primary email address and additional email addresses can be retrieved, making it easier to add email addresses to your account.
  • Using an email address
A “Projets recherche connect.fr” account can be created directly with an email address and password. Unlike with the ORCID option, email addresses must be added manually, one at a time.

Launched in beta in March on the ANR’s SIM and OASIS platforms, “Projets recherche connect.fr” has already led to the creation of over 12,000 accounts.

In the longer term, “Projets recherche connect.fr” will also make it easier to log in via ProConnect.

Launch of “My space”: a new interface to reduce administrative burden

The main innovation behind this new service, developed by the portal’s partners in response to the needs of the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space, is the implementation of the “Tell Us Once” principle.

“My space”, available from the portal’s homepage, provides scientists with a single place where they can view consolidated information about their research background (affiliations, teaching, publications, expertise, etc.), particularly information that is repeatedly entered when responding to calls, and use it to automatically complete application forms for future calls for proposals managed on the portal.

Scientists applying to the National Research Programme for Environmental and Occupational Health (PNR EST) calls issued by ANSES on 9 July will be the first to benefit from these new features.

•    Thanks to persistent identifiers (RNSR, ROR, ORCID) used by the HAL national open archive and the recherche.data.gouv platform, information already entered can be automatically imported into “My space”.
For example, researchers can import their previously entered biography and positions from their ORCID account by clicking on the familiar green icon.
•    Harmonised CVs: “My space” provides a harmonised CV template for all calls for proposals managed through the portal, reducing the amount of information to be entered when submitting applications.

The “My space” interface will gradually be enhanced with new features and connected to other tools, making it the entry point for calls for proposals, from submission through to scientific monitoring.
