ANSES signs a partnership agreement with Ouest Valorisation TTO to add value to its research results

The Ouest Valorisation TTO and ANSES are signing a partnership agreement today. Its goals are to add value to the research results produced by ANSES's laboratories in the Brittany and Pays de la Loire Regions and develop innovation stemming from their work.

This partnership agreement will provide greater support to the innovation projects currently being implemented by the Ouest Valorisation Technology Transfer Office (TTO) and the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES). It will aim to coordinate the transfer of knowledge acquired through the work of ANSES's laboratories located in western France. The TTO, whose shareholders include public research institutions and the French State, will act as an intermediary for promoting innovations to companies.

The partnership will primarily focus on raising awareness of this approach among ANSES's researchers, detecting innovations resulting from scientific work with a potential socio-economic impact, and protecting these innovations intellectually. It also intends to provide support for building on the identified results, i.e. for the move from proof of concept to the demonstration of a possible industrial and commercial development.

Moreover, support will be offered in the marketing stage, from the identification of industrial demand to the promotion of innovations to companies. The negotiation and management of development contracts will also be included. Lastly, if possible under the knowledge transfer strategy, work will be carried out to encourage and support the creation of innovative companies.

Through this partnership agreement, we will support ANSES in adding value to the research work of three national and European reference laboratories. This will enable us to provide companies wanting to benefit from academic research with a wide range of expertise and technologies

Vincent Lamande
President of Ouest Valorisation

The partnership with the Ouest Valorisation TTO will provide us with greater visibility and will allow us to make use of the innovative results obtained in our laboratories, to develop tools for safeguarding health and safety while remaining independent from private stakeholders

Laetitia Charron
Project Leader in charge of promotion and calls for research projects at ANSES

Three ANSES laboratories, located primarily in Brittany and Pays de la Loire, will be involved in this partnership:

The Ploufragan-Plouzané-Niort Laboratory

Spread out across three sites, this laboratory is dedicated to the poultry, rabbit and pig sector (Ploufragan), the fishery sector with freshwater and saltwater fish (Plouzané and Ploufragan), and the ruminant sector (Niort). Its work is intended to improve animal health and welfare and the safety of foods of animal origin. The laboratory's activities focus more specifically on the control of pathogenic bacteria that can be transmitted from animals to humans, such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria and Yersinia, and also on animal diseases that are potential or proven scourges for the affected sectors, such as avian influenza and African swine fever.

The Fougères Laboratory

The role of the Fougères Laboratory is to further knowledge of the benefits and risks associated with veterinary medicinal products and with disinfectants used by the food processing industry. Its activities include screening for residues of veterinary medicinal products in foodstuffs of animal origin and assessing the effectiveness of antibiotics and disinfectants. It also studies antimicrobial resistance to these products and assesses the toxicity of chemical contaminants.

The Plant Health Laboratory

The Plant Health Laboratory is responsible for identifying biological risks to plants, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and oomycetes, nematodes (parasitic worms), and invasive plants. It studies insect pests, beneficial insects (which help protect plants), and insects that are vectors of disease. The laboratory is also in charge of coordinating the detection of GM plants and products derived from new breeding techniques (NBTs). Lastly, it is responsible for the quarantine of plants introduced into France under import regulation waivers. Its missions cover cultivated land, forests, and natural environments.
