PNR EST call for research proposals on "Radiofrequencies and health"
On 9 July 2026, ANSES launched its 2026 call for research proposals on the topic "Radiofrequencies and Health". It is financed by funds entrusted to ANSES by the Ministry responsible for ecological transition, energy, climate and risk prevention.
This call is issued as part of the National Research Programme for Environmental and Occupational Health (PNR EST). This programme aims to encourage scientific communities to produce data of use in the different phases of health risk assessment, thereby bringing research and scientific expert appraisal closer together.
The selection process will be divided into two stages:
- An initial selection on the basis of letters of intent
- A second round of selection based on complete applications
Two committees are involved. The scientific committee is made up of researchers, and is responsible for evaluating and selecting projects on scientific grounds. The steering committee, made up of representatives of the funding bodies, relevant ministries and other stakeholders, draws up the list of projects to be funded from among those shortlisted by the scientific committee.
The call for proposals and the research questions
The scope and conditions are described in the text of the call for research proposals. It is accompanied by a list of research questions that have been identified as priority areas for potential users of this research. These questions are the topics that this call aims to document. Four research areas are addressed:
- Mechanisms of action at molecular and cellular level
- Physiological responses to and health effects of radiofrequencies
- Electromagnetic hypersensitivity
- Characterisation of exposure
Application submission procedure
To submit a letter of intent or a completed application form, go to the appelsprojetsrecherche.fr portal. You will then need to log in or create an account with Projets Recherche Connect to gain access to your account. You can then submit your project on the IRIS platform by clicking on "voir mes dépôts et évaluations".
Provisional timetable for the call
- 9 July 2026: opening of the call.
- From 21 July 2026: opening of the Iris platform.
- 1 October 2026 at noon: deadline for submitting letters of intent.
- December 2026: project coordinators informed of the first selection results, based on the letters of intent.
- 11 March 2027 at noon: deadline for submitting complete applications.
- June 2027: publication of the final selection results.
Letters of intent must be submitted online by the scientific project leaders no later than 1 October 2026 at noon (12:00), French time.
For those whose letters of intent are shortlisted, complete applications must be submitted online by the project scientific leaders no later than 11 March 2027 at noon (12:00), French time.
The time of the submission deadline must be respected. Acknowledge of receipt of electronic applications will be automatically sent to the scientific project leaders.
Applications that are incomplete, received after the deadline or do not fulfil the eligibility criteria will not be evaluated. Practical recommendations
- Before submission of the letter of intent or the complete application, carefully read the text of the call, and in particular the "eligibility criteria" section and annexes with the relevant research topics and "list of chargeable expenses".
- Once finalised, submit the letter of intent or the complete application to ANSES using the platform (remember to click on the "dépôt" button). You are strongly advised not to wait until the deadline.
