The CES on the Assessment of biological risks in food is in charge of:

  • examining general cross-cutting or emerging topics relating to the biological risks associated with food; 
  • assessing the biological risks associated with foods: microbiological (bacterial, fungal, viral) and parasitological risk assessments relating to the preparation, distribution and consumption of food; 
  • conducting assessments relating to general cross-cutting or emerging topics on the biological risks associated with food. For example: emerging microbiological hazards (viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi), microbiological contamination of plants, best practices for food preparation and consumption, changes in inspection procedures in slaughterhouses, requests for exemptions from EU provisions for products with traditional characteristics, etc.
