Endocrine disruptors: Scientific Conferences on current research work and future prospects

On 8 July, ANSES and the French National Research Agency (ANR) will once again join forces to organise a Science Day devoted to research on endocrine disruptors. This new edition will also provide an opportunity to review the scientific advances and challenges at the heart of the new national strategy on endocrine disruptors.

We encounter endocrine disruptors, substances that can interfere with our hormonal system, in our daily lives: they can be found in food, cosmetics, packaging, medicines and crop treatment products.

Given the diverse sources of exposure to these substances, research is crucial for a better understanding of their effects according to exposure doses and life stages. This knowledge is essential for determining the role of environmental exposure in the development of certain diseases (metabolic diseases, reproductive diseases, obesity, etc.), taking preventive measures, and ultimately better guidance of public policy.

Meeting these scientific challenges will help reduce the exposure of the population and the environment to endocrine disruptors, which is why they are at the focus of the new National Strategy on Endocrine Disruptors (SNPE2) 2019-2022.

In this context, ANSES and the ANR are organising a new day of Scientific Conferences on the theme of endocrine disruptors. The objective is to strengthen cooperation within the national scientific community by promoting dialogue between stakeholders, including environmental associations, professional organisations and public decision-makers.

The symposium will bring together all those concerned and provide an opportunity to take stock of current research work and prospects in this field, while also highlighting the complementarity between the projects funded by ANSES’s National Research Programme for Environmental and Occupational Health (PNR EST) and the ANR’s programmes.

The day will be divided into three thematic sessions:

  • effects of endocrine disruptors on offspring;
  • mechanism of action: low doses and mixtures;
  • other effects of endocrine disruptors.

This day of Science Conferences will close with a roundup of the challenges posed by endocrine disruptors for public health and society as a whole.
