PNR EST: ANSES continues to promote open access to data on the projects it finances

Facilitating access to research data and results is essential for the mobilisation of scientific knowledge. ANSES has recently launched a portal in the HAL open archive for publications relating to the projects funded by the National Research Programme for Environmental and Occupational Health (PNR EST). This supplements a series of actions aimed at opening up data from the research projects financed by the Agency.

Improving access to the results and data of the projects financed

For several years, ANSES has been committed to open science, a movement aimed at ensuring free and unrestricted access to scientific research publications and results. In this context, alongside its partners, it has signed the network of French funding agencies’ joint declaration in favour of open science, with the aim of promoting a concerted and harmonised approach.

In line with its commitments, the Agency has just launched a HAL PNR EST portal. This provides access to the publications of each project funded under the PNR EST as soon as they are deposited in the HAL national open archive.

In addition, since 2024, ANSES has been providing access to information on funded projects and partners, on the data.gouv.fr national public data portal. These administrative datasets are available for all the projects that have been funded since the programme was created in 2006. They are updated every year and provide detailed information on each research project, including the abstract (in French and English), the scientific leaders, the partner organisations, the project’s start date and the amount of funding awarded.

Promoting exchanges of data between platforms to facilitate work for researchers

Declaring on data.gouv.fr also promotes data exchanges between different tools and services in the research ecosystem, simplifying the work of scientists. For example, administrative information published on data.gouv.fr can be automatically retrieved from the HAL platform or the DMP OPIDoR tool for the creation of data management plans. Mandatory for all research projects funded under a call for proposals, a data management plan describes how research data are collected, processed, stored, shared and reused. ANSES advises PNR EST beneficiaries to use the DMP OPIDoR “Science Europe: structured model” data management plan template.

These various initiatives undertaken by ANSES over the past several years are helping to raise the profile of the PNR EST, showcase the projects carried out and their results, and increase the transparency of the funding granted.
