Franck Fourès appointed Director of the French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products

Franck Fourès was appointed Director of the French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products, part of ANSES, by order of the Ministers of Agriculture and Health, on 29 July 2022. He will take up his new position on 1 November 2022.

Franck Fourès, an inspector general of veterinary public health, has been appointed to lead the French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products (ANMV), an ANSES department that is the competent authority in France for risk assessment and management of veterinary medicines. In this role, he will oversee the successful implementation of all the steps needed to rigorously assess the benefits and risks of placing veterinary medicinal products on the market and ensure the safe operation of veterinary pharmaceutical establishments: from the assessment of dossiers on active substances, veterinary medicinal products and establishments, through to their authorisation, including market surveillance, monitoring of adverse effects and inspection of establishments.

In his new position, Franck Fourès will promote the ANMV's recognised expertise and guarantee its European and international reputation as a specialised agency in the field of veterinary medicinal products within a health and safety agency with competence in animal, plant and human health. In particular, he will ensure synergies between the teams working on the safety and efficacy of veterinary medicines, and ANSES's research and risk assessment activities. In France and abroad, Franck Fourès will be committed to maintaining the momentum of the Agency's cooperation initiatives with its counterparts and partners, in accordance with the "One health" concept.

With a career that has touched on animal health, agriculture and food, his background gives him a firm command of the expertise needed in this field. He is also familiar with the Agency and its fundamental principles, having formerly been Deputy Director of Risk Assessment for five years. He succeeds Jean-Pierre Orand, who is joining the High Council for Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas (CGAAER) within the Ministry of Agriculture.

In Franck Fourès' view, "The ANMV, with its expertise in veterinary medicine and its position within a major health and safety agency, is ideally placed to play a reference role on the international scene and promote innovation in its area of competence. I am delighted to have been asked to continue the rigorous work carried out by the ANMV teams and to address, together with our stakeholders, the new challenges associated with society's evolving expectations in the field of veterinary medicines."
