Surveillance activities of the Lyon Laboratory

In the field of surveillance, the Lyon Laboratory:

  • together with the Ploufragan-Plouzané-Niort Laboratory, jointly coordinates RESAPATH, the surveillance network for antimicrobial resistance in pathogenic bacteria of animal origin;
  • leads a consortium working to create a European surveillance network for antimicrobial resistance in veterinary medicine (EARS-Vet),
  • Runs Vigimyc, the epidemiological surveillance network for ruminant mycoplasmas;
  • analyses the quality of data from food safety surveillance and control plans (Qualiplan project);
  • centralises, analyses, prepares and submits annual data on zoonoses (transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, tuberculosis, brucellosis, salmonella, rabies, West Nile fever, echinococcosis) and antimicrobial resistance (on E. coli, salmonella, Campylobacter) to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) as part of European surveillance plans.

The Lyon Laboratory is also a contributor to the three national epidemiological surveillance platforms:

  • the epidemiological surveillance platform for animal health (ESA);
  • the surveillance platform for food-chain safety (SCA);
  • the epidemiological surveillance platform for plant health (ESV).

The laboratory’s responsibilities in these platforms involve coordinating their work, providing cross-cutting support in the areas of epidemiology, information technology and biostatistics, and participating in monitoring and work groups and international health monitoring activities.
